FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Fayetteville High School varsity girls soccer team showcased a commanding performance Tuesday night at Harmon Stadium, securing a 6-0 victory over Springdale High School.
Both teams, fittingly nicknamed the Bulldogs, entered the match with differing starts to their seasons—Fayetteville at 1-0 and Springdale looking for their first win at 0-2. From the opening whistle, it was clear which team had the upper hand.

Senior forward Kara Whitson (24) set the tone early, scoring two goals in the first period to put Fayetteville ahead 2-0 by halftime. Whitson’s aggressive play and precision finishing gave her team a comfortable lead heading into the break.
“I just wanted to come out strong for us,” Whitson said. “We worked hard in practice, and I think it showed tonight.”

The Bulldogs kept its momentum rolling in the second period, with sophomore Sarah Rainer adding an early goal to extend the lead. From there, the floodgates opened, and Fayetteville capitalized on Springdale’s defensive struggles to secure three more goals before the final whistle.
Head coach Joe Thoma was pleased with his team’s performance, emphasizing their discipline and execution.
“The girls played with great energy and stayed focused,” Thoma said. “This was a great team effort, and I’m proud of how our girls played.”

Fayetteville will hit the road for their next game, facing off against Rogers Heritage next Tuesday night.
